It has been reported that as of August 1, 2020 there were over 1,000 federal and state court actions pending in the United States against insurance companies for business interruption (BI) coverages relating to various state and local executive orders closing or limiting businesses in an effort to stop or slow community spread of COVID-19.
More lawsuits are being filed every day.
Many insurers have met those lawsuits with pre-answer dispositive motions.
Compiled on this site are the US federal and state courts' decisions and orders issued to date on the two, pivotal coverage issues: direct physical loss or damage; and the virus exclusion.
